Sand Casting Masterclass

98.00

Recycle your jewellery!

10am -5pm

In this class you will learn how to make a mould from sand into which you will melt and pour silver.  The mould is made by pressing an object into a cylinder of compacted sand, which is then removed before pouring molten silver into the space created.

As a general template there will be time to perform a minimum of two casts each during the day. You will cast a ring in the morning (using a wax mould) then another item of your choice (using an object which you can bring yourself – no bigger than 3cm2.)

You will also be taught jewellery finishing techniques such as piercing, filing, heat treating and polishing - enabling you to walk away with two finished and wearable pieces of jewellery or polished silver objects.

This class is suitable for complete beginners or those with some jewellery making experience. The class may be especially appropriate for those who would like to recycle sentimental silver or for those who wish to replicate an already existing piece of jewellery or object.

All day classes run from 10am - 5pm and are held at our studio in Walthamstow.

Making jewellery can be messy so please don't wear your best clothes!  And for Health and Safety reasons please wear sturdy footwear that covers your feet - i.e. no sandles, leather boots or shoes are best.

If you need reading glasses please bring them along, as we will be working on tiny things.
